In the process of recognizing and negotiating, we become a community&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/takebackeconomy.net\" target=\"_blank\">Take Back the Economy<\/a>: xix).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The community economies map is about this recognition process. As we recognize those community economies in the making across the territory we are engaging in a reframing of how we understand the economy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Click on the map below to know more about the economic initiatives present at the conference in 2016. They encourage us to take back the economy by engaging in ethical action:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Surviving<\/em> together well and equitably<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Distributing surplus<\/em> to enrich social and environmental health<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Encountering others<\/em> in ways that support their well-being as well as ours<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Consuming<\/em> sustainably<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Caring for<\/em> &#8211; maintaining, replenishing and growing &#8211; our natural and cultural <em>commons<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Investing our wealth in future generations<\/em> so that they can live well<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Watch these two videos to get an idea of how some communities are working with these ideas.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=g_DeDTKkCDk&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\">Negotiating and Cooperation in Food Cooperatives<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3g5TDNgEVqM\" target=\"_blank\">New Forms of &#8216;Commoning&#8217; in a Post-Quake City<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Beyond capitalism is an opportunity for us reflect on how we are taking back the economy and building strong community economies. Folks involved in the mapped initiatives \u00a0will be presenting what is going on in their neck of the woods and sharing their analysis of best practices and challenges they face.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Katherine Gibson (K. Gibson of J.K. Gibson-Graham) and Ethan Miller of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.communityeconomies.org\/Home\" target=\"_blank\">Community Economies Collective<\/a> will also be with us.
